West Highland TerrierWest Highland Terrier came into existence in the mid-nineteenth century. This dog has its origin in Scotland. People then, commonly called this dog ‘Westie’. This dog breed was used for controlling population of otter, fox and rodent. Recently, this dog has shown tendencies of a great companion.

Body Description:

This dog is compact and sturdy. Its eyes are dark, bright and deep set. Ears of this dog are small, erect and pointed. This dog carries its tail jauntily, which is around five to six inches long. Its limbs are muscular and chest is deep. Jaws have the scissors bite. Its skull is convex

West Highland Terrier displays double coat on its body. Its outer coat appears harsh, straight and wiry, whereas under coat seems soft and fluffy. Colour of the coat is white.

Weight and Height Male dogs are 10 to 12 inches tall, whereas female dogs are 9 to 11 inches tall. Male dogs weigh 7 to 10 kg, whereas female dogs weigh 6 to 7 kg
Nature and Temperament This dog is spunky and energetic. It is loyal to its owner. This dog does not like any caressing it. This dog barks on spotting anything unusual. It makes a good family pet. It mixes well with well-behaved children. This dog is often demanding and as such exhibits the traits of a true terrier. It socialises well with fellow pets.
Activity

West Highland Terrier likes running and exploring things around. Apartment dwelling is not suitable for this dog. It needs one hour of regular exercise. This dog has a tendency to dig. A yard with sufficient space and secure fencing is okay.

Life Span Life expectancy of West highland terrier is 15 years and above.
