pet guide - Snowshoe Cat

SnowshoeThe breed of Snowshoe cat came into existence in the 1960s. This cat breed charmed Dorothy Hinds-Daugherty of Philadelphia. Snowshoe kittens look like as if they had just emerged through the glistening snow, hence the name Snowshoe.

Body Description:

Snowshoe cats resemble white snow gloves. They are medium sized and shorthaired cats. Snowshoe cats have an unusual combination of heftiness like the American shorthairs and body length of Siamese cats. The head is broad and wedge-shaped with high cheekbones. Ears are medium, alert with slightly rounded tips and broad base. Eyes are oval shaped, bright, vivid and blue coloured. Legs are long and tail is pointed to the end

The coat of Snowshoe is coloured and patterned like snowflakes. They are born with a complete white colored coat. The colour and markings appear within the first and third week from the birth.

Weight and Height

Male Snowshoe cats weigh around 8-14 pounds and females weigh around 6-12 pounds. They measure up to 9-12 inches.

Nature and Temperament

Snowshoes have pleasing personality and mellow temperament. They are extremely devoted to their families. Snowshoes do not like to be left alone even for a short period. They love to be cared and sleep in the laps of their owners. They are extremely friendly to human beings and other animals, which makes the perfect pets.

Activity

Snowshoes are very active and receive all the exercise that they need by playing around the house. They need toys and other cat companions to play with.

Life Span On an average, the Snowshoe cat lives around 9-15 years.
