Body of the Rottweiler is powerful, athletic and muscular. Its head is broad and forehead is rounded. It displays a well-developed muzzle. Eyes are expressive and dark. Ears of the dog are carried forward and triangular. Nose is flat and black. Its lips are dark-coloured. This dog displays a docked tail.
Body coat of Rottweiler is thick, short and dark. It is usually black having brown markings on the muzzle, legs, cheek and paws. Hair on its coat shows a deficiency, due to which the coat might be lighter red. Its outer coat is straight, short and of medium size. Its undercoat covers the area around thighs and neck. |
Rottweiler is a German breed of large, vigorous, short-haired, cattle dogs. Its origin is not clear. However, people believe this dog comes from Italian Mastiff dog breed. People in the dark ages used it for herding. This dog almost disappeared in 1800s. However, the early 20th century saw the comeback of this dog breed. Recently, people use it for obedience trials, tracking, watch dogging, herding, police work and guarding.
