Portuguese Water Dogs are very smart and alarmed about the happenings in their surroundings. They are very friendly and extremely protective about their family members. They are good observers, which makes them good watchdogs. This breed loves water and is very sporting.

Thick curly or wavy long enough to cover the whole body completely and evenly except for the groin. It is bliss for homes with allergies.

Weight and Height

Maximum size of Portuguese Water Dog differs in males as compared to females. Male water dog weighs around 42 to 60 pounds, whereas the female water dog weighs around 35 to 50 pounds. Male water dog grows 20 to 23 inches tall, whereas female water dog grows around 17 to 21 inches tall.

Nature and Temperament Early socialization is very important for this breed, as it is very protective towards its family and so it can get aggressive at times. This breed is not at all trustworthy as far as smaller animals are concerned. Portuguese Water Dog is an attention seeker, will follow you wherever you go.
Activity

Adjusts well with a family environment and enjoys work and play with equal enthusiasm. They are very active, but when bored they might chew on things. Portuguese Water Dog loves to roam around places and hence provides a good company out doors.
