Labrador RetrieverIn the 1700s, Labrador Retriever originated in Newfoundland. Later, in the 1800s, it introduced itself to England. It is one of the oldest recognized breed of dogs. The dog makes a good family pet, because of its positive attributes and versatility.

Body Description:

Size of Labrador Retriever is medium. It has a well-balanced, athletic and strong body. The dog is outgoing and friendly. It comes in two types namely the American Labrador and English Labrador. American Labrador is lanky and tall, whereas English Labrador is heavy and thick. The dog is a sporting breed and as such, skilled in retrieving and hunting.

Labrador Retriever has double coat on its body. The outer coat appears dense, short, straight and hard-textured, whereas under coat protects the dog from weather, cold and water. Colour of the coat is yellow, chocolate and black

Weight and Height

Dogs weigh 65 to 80 kg, whereas bitches weigh 55 to 70 lbs and they can grow up to 22 to 24 inches tall, whereas bitches are 21 to 23 inches tall.

Nature and Temperament Labrador Retriever is devoted, loyal and highly intelligent. It is even affectionate and reliable. It craves for human attention. The dog adores the company of children and other similar dog breeds. It may often hold back fearing any stranger. It is a perfect watchdog. When left alone for hours, it may cause destruction due to boredom.
Activity

Owners need to socialise with Labrador Retriever since its childhood days for obedience. It needs training, so that it does not pull on the leash. The dog does not react to harshness. This dog breed surpasses other dogs in rescue operation, tracking, obedience, agility and police work. It may be trained to act as service dog for those who are disabled.

Life Span The average lifespan of this dog breed is 9 to 12 years.
