Richardson, who helped it restore its identity in 1840s. This dog breed was active in hunting wild boar, wolves and elk. People valued the dog for its ability as a hunter, watchdog and war dog.

Irish Wolfhound is the tallest breed among popular dog breeds. Its size is nearly that of a pony. The dog is seven feet tall. Its paws are round and large. Its toes are arched with curved nails. Its head is long. Its neck is muscular. It has a well-retracted abdomen. The tail of the dog hangs down.

Coat of an Irish Wolfhound is medium in length, which is hard and rough on its upper head, legs and body. The muzzle as well as hair around its eyes is slightly longer and wiry.

Weight and Height The dog is 28 to 35 inches tall. It weighs around 40 to 69 kg
Nature and Temperament This dog breed is well-mannered, loving and possesses a sweet nature. It makes an ideal companion. The dog is dignified and loyal to its owner. It mixes well within a family environment. The dog even stays in the company of cats and other dogs, provided it get the necessary training.
Activities Irish Wolfhound needs a big fenced yard to stay. Owners need not let it off the lead, as it chases its prey. The dog enjoys walking and chasing.
