It became famous on the Ibizan island and other surrounding islands. The dog was used for hunting rabbit. It has a quick approach toward its prey. For this, the dog uses its smell, sight and hearing. Owners may even try the dog for nocturnal hunting. It may appear as perfect show dog. It resembles the Pharaoh hound. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized this dog breed in 1979

Body Description:

Ibizan Hound is even popular as Podenco Ibicenco. The dog is athletic, deer-like, elegant and agile. It has an arched neck. Its head has the shape of a wedge. Eyes are amber and large. Ears are triangular and remain erect, whenever it is watchful. It has healthy teeth. The nose has a convex shape, which is known as Roman nose. The dog has fine-boned body. Muscles are sleek and flat. The dewclaws are removable. Tail is slender and long and hangs low.

The body coat of this dog is wired, smooth and long. Colour of the coat is Tan and White, Red and White, Red or Solid White

Weight and Height

Ibizan Hound weighs 19 to 25 kg (42 to 55 pounds) and grows up to 22 to 29 inches tall

Nature and Temperament Ibizan Hound is polite, quiet and playful. It is sensitive, gentle and soft on children. The dog is independent of its actions. Rodents, cats and rabbits are better if away from this dog. It does well with cats, if accompanied since childhood, but may even attack them. It loves the company of human beings and maintains in-house discipline. The dog has a tendency to learn, as it is trainable.
Activity

A yard of long size is best for this dog to stay well. Privacy fences are recommended, as this breed jump off fences easily

Life Span The survival period of this dog breed is 10 to 12 years.
