Golden RetrieversGolden Retriever originated in the Isles of England from a cross breed of Spaniels and Retrievers. Earlier, Golden Retriever was used to retrieve hunted ducks from both land and water, thus the name. They have excellent hunting and tracking abilities. Recently, the police use them for narcotics detection. Golden Retrievers are also used as guide dogs for blind, therapy dogs and service dogs for disabled. They have also starred in movies like You’ve Got Mail, Airbud, Napoleon, Watchers, Blue Peter, etc

Body Description:

Golden Retrievers are beautiful and sturdy dogs. They have a proportionate and medium sized body having furry, creamy or golden colour. They have broad chest, big and muscular neck and thighs. Ears are long and drooping. The head is broad and wide.

The coat is dense, waterproof and furry. The fur may be straight or wavy. The coat is rich and lustrous having different shades of gold. It needs regular combing or brushing. Golden Retrievers need frequent baths with dry shampoo.

Weight and Height

Golden Retrievers measure up to 22-24 inches and weigh around 60-80 pounds.

Nature and Temperament

Golden Retrievers are charming, lovable and intelligent dogs. They are loyal, obedient, patient, gentle and easy to train. They love their families greatly. They will fight till the end to protect their loved ones. Golden Retrievers are the friendliest breed of dog. They require constant human attention or else they can become mischievous.

Activities

Golden Retrievers need regular exercise. They enjoy long walks and playing with Frisbee. Golden Retrievers make excellent companions for hunting birds. They love to swim and do not miss a single chance to swim. They are great at dock jumping and enjoy playing fetch.

Average lifespan Golden Retrievers live up to 10-12 years.
