German Longhaired PointerCenturies ago, dog breeders bred German Longhaired Pointer in Germany. People then, used this dog as a pointer to scent out and point game. However, this dog was not much useful for hunters. Hence, breeders further bred this dog with similar other pointers and setters. The early 1800s saw this breed very active in the fields.

Body Description:

This dog looks cheerful. Its head is large-squared. Its rounded attentive eyes display intelligence and curiosity. Its floppy ears hang loosely. Its neck is short and thick, which leads to the chest and broad shoulders. Its muscular legs are covered with hair. Its feet resemble the feet of a rabbit. This dog has fur all over its body, either short or medium in size.

Body coat of this dog is thick, lustrous and hairy.  It is dark brown displaying patches of brown or light brown. The area around its feet and chest displays white patches.

Weight and Height German Longhaired Pointer is 23 to 28 inches tall. It weighs around 60 to 70 pounds.
Nature and Temperament German Longhaired Pointer appears energetic and friendly. It comfortably stays in a family environment, with children and strangers. It even mixes with similar other dogs. It is highly attentive when it comes to hunting its prey and training. It obeys orders. It hates isolation.
Activity

This dog breed loves staying in a family environment. It socialises with people and other dogs. Daily exercise is necessary for this dog to stay active. As such, hunting is a better exercise.

Life Span Life expectancy of this dog is 12 to 14 years.
