Finnish HoundIn the 1800’s, dog breeders crossed the French, Swedish and German hounds, and this crossbreeding resulted in the origination of Finnish hound. This dog breed is popular in Finland. However, despite its growing popularity in Sweden and Finland, the dog is not common elsewhere. People, the dog remains active from September to February and is rare to find in dog breed exhibitions.

Body Description:

Finnish hound has a short body coat. However, the coat is coarse and dense to touch. The colour of the coat is usually tang. The dog has white markings on its head, tail tip, chest and feet.

Finnish hounds having short and smooth hair are easy to comb. Owners need to brush the coat using a brush that has firm bristles. Occasionally, owners may dry shampoo the coat. In addition, the nails need proper trimming. Finnish hounds are average shedders.

Weight and Height

Finnish hounds weigh around 20 to 25 kg (45 to 55 pounds) and they can grow up to 20 to 24 inches tall.

Nature and Temperament Finnish hound appears energetic, while hunting fox and hare. It follows the smell to track down its prey. The dog is not aggressive, but has a calm and friendly nature. It is always willing to hunt no matter how difficult the circumstance may be. The dog works independently and is a multitalented tracker. It follows the prey by barking passionately.
Activity

The dog possesses enormous stamina. They require regular brisk walking sessions providing enough time to run. The dog performs well in a protected area, when unleashed.

Average lifespan Finnish hounds might survive for 12 years.
