Chartreux are medium sized and sturdy French breed. Their head is round and broad with powerful jaws. Their nose is straight and medium in width and length. They have very expressive, round and alert copper or gold coloured eyes. Their body is strong with broad shoulders and deep chest. Their legs are short and finely boned.
The coat is short and woolly in texture. It has dense and resilient undercoat. Popularly coat colours include any shade of blue-grey from ash to slate colour. |
It is stated that, Chartreux originated and lived with the Carthusian monks of France. Recent research indicates that Chartreux got the name from the well known Spanish wool of the 18th century of the same name because of their woolly fur.
