AkbashAkbash is an elegant and rare breed of dog. The origin of Akbash dates back some 3000 years. Shepherds usually own them, as they consider Akbash as a farm animal. The colour of Akbash is white and it helps them to remain unnoticed from predators.

Body Description: Both the sexes of Akbash are same in colour. The skin of Akbash has double coating. This helps to remain healthy and normal in extreme climate conditions. The outer coat of Akbash comprises of coarse and long hair, while the inner coat comprises of soft and dense hair. Inner coat and outer coat have two different lengths namely, long coat and medium coat. Medium coat provides Akbash a sleek look, as it is flat. Long coat provides a feathery look, as it is wavy and long. Akbash has abundant hair on forelegs, thighs and tail. The fur of both the coats is climate and mat resistant.
Weight and Height The weight of Akbash averages around 100 lbs. Generally, Akbash grows up to 27 inches. Male Akbash is dominant over female Akbash due to the difference in weight, height and strength.
Nature and Temperament People consider Akbash as an ideal guardian, due to its striking appearance. They have the strength and courage to face upcoming challenges to obey their duty. They remain alert all the time, get very angry on other intruding dogs, and react aggressively on them. The breed is loyal, affectionate, gentle and independent.
Health Care It is important to brush their coat frequently to avoid shedding. Unnecessarily bathing may create problems. Use only shampoo to clean their coat to provide better protection from climatic conditions. Akbash are prone to Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and hip dysplasia.
Surrounding They are unable to adjust city living with their activity. They need ample space such as rural area or a farming field for roaming.
Training

The breed does not require any special training. They are skilful enough to learn from basic training. They are always eager to work or do the job provided by their owners. People may call Akbash as a best companion either at home or in work.
