pet guide - Airedale Terrier

Airedale TerrierAiredale Terrier was originally bred around hundred years ago in the realm of York. It is known as the “King of Terriers” in England. In fact, it was called as Waterside Terrier and people used this dog breed as vermin hunters.

Body Description:

It is a big terrier with a long plane head, harsh wiry fur and a cryptic chest. Its fur is resistant to succulence, though it requires stripping. The v-shaped ears bend faintly to the backside and forward. It has light black coloured nose. Its wiry outer fur is lined wholly with a malleable basecoat. The legs, undersides, head, ears and chest are mostly in chocolate colour.

This dog breed has a shorthaired and double coat, which has to be plucked twice in a year. If you strip the coat, it will shed a little to no hair, but if you do not, you are likely to find the coat stacked around your floor. Thus, they need a little bit of grooming.

Weight and Height

The maximum height of this breed is 22 to 24 inches in male and 22-23 inches in female dogs. The maximum weight of this breed is 60 to 65 lbs in males and 40 to 45 lbs in females.

Nature and Temperament This dog breed feels comfortable with kids, though it may turn violent at times. It is very protective, courageous, friendly, clever and pleasant. In addition, it is responsive, sensitive, obedience when trained at a great level. While at puppy’s stage, it will be very playful and fun loving.
Activities

This dog needs many exercise programs such as jogging and daily walk.

Average lifespan The normal lifespan of Airedale Terrier is around 10 to 12 years.
